Title: Research Challenges in Livecoding
Host: Ruzica Piskac
Abstract:
Livecoding – the interactive modification of a program at runtime – is a promising technique for software development. The interactivity provides a new level of immediate feedback for the programmer, but also introduces new challenges in mapping live changes back to the original intent of the program. This talk will be an overview of popular livecoding techniques and the unique challenges they present, along with thoughts about promising research directions.
Tom Murphy is a programmer and livecoder. He is the author of Vivid, a Haskell interface for the SuperCollider synthesis engine, and Midair, an FRP interface for livecoding. He performs livecoded music in New York as a part of Livecode.NYC.
