Yale graduate students Haomiao Wu, Alvin Shi, Jarred Parr, along with Associate Professor Theodore Kim and their collaborator Professor A.M. Darke from UCSC, won the best paper award at the ACM SIGGRAPH / Eurographics Symposium on Computer Animation (SCA) 2023 on August 6.
Their paper Lifted Curls: A Model for Tightly Coiled Hair Simulation proposed the first efficient computer simulation method for tightly coiled hair, otherwise known as afro-textured or kinky hair. The paper can be found here, the paper video can be watched on YouTube, and SEAS coverage is here.
