Valerie Chen (MY’20) and Rebecca Ramnauth (GS) win the prestigious 2020 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Valerie Chen (MY’20) and Rebecca Ramnauth (GS) have won the prestigious 2020 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Fellows benefit from three years of funding for graduate studies in addition to coverage for tuition and fees. During her undergraduate studies at Yale, Valerie primarily worked with Professor Zhong Shao and Dr. Man-Ki Yoon on developing a task-aware novelty detection mechanism for visual-based deep learning in autonomous systems, which has been accepted for publication at a premier robotics conference , ICRA 2020. After Yale, Valerie intends to join CMU as a PhD student. Rebecca is a first-year PhD student working in the Social Robotics Lab led by Prof. Brian Scassellati. Her primary research interests are on computational creativity for children with learning disabilities.
